Batesville Casket Company will be shutting down its second shift at the Doll facility.
The announcement was made by corporate executives late Friday afternoon, Jan. 13, at the plant.
It’s a reduction of 9 percent of the Batesville workforce, which means about 100 people, and will be effective in March. There will be a small increase of employees at the other metal plant in Manchester, Tenn. The net result is a 2 percent impact on the North American workforce, according to WRBI radio 103.9.
Company officials said the shut down is a result of the burial volume decrease, and current market conditions that demand a shift in production between both Batesville and Manchester facilities.
